What is BrewPing

A local-first remote control for the AI coding agents already running on your own computer.

All

BrewPing does not provide an AI model, and it does not run your code in the cloud. It is a bridge: your phone sends a short piece of text, the desktop app on your own computer receives it, writes it into a real terminal session, and streams the answer back. Your codebase never leaves the machine it lives on.

What it is made of

ComponentPlatformStackWhat it does
Desktop (macOS)macOS 13.0+Swift 5.9, SwiftPMMenu bar app + main window. Serves HTTP on 8787, advertises itself over Bonjour.
Desktop (Windows)Windows 10+Tauri 2 + axum + React 19Single-window app with system tray. Serves HTTP on 8787, plus a local model proxy on 127.0.0.1:15721.
iPhone appiOS 17.0+SwiftUIDiscovers your computer on the LAN, manages conversations, sends commands.
Apple Watch companionwatchOS 11.6+SwiftUI (watchOS)Installed together with the iPhone app. Device list, conversation entry, connection status, voice dictation.
Android appAndroid 8.0+ (minSdk 26)Kotlin + Jetpack ComposeNSD/mDNS discovery, conversations, approvals, folder binding.

How one command travels

  1. 1You type or dictate a task on your phone or watch.
  2. 2The mobile client sends it over HTTP to the desktop app on your computer.
  3. 3The desktop app authenticates the request, then writes the text into a live PTY session.
  4. 4The AI coding agent running inside that PTY does the work, in its own working directory.
  5. 5Output streams back through the same HTTP channel and is rendered as a result (or as raw screen output).

Local first, by construction

There is no relay server and no public endpoint. Discovery uses Bonjour / mDNS (_brewping._tcp) and traffic stays on your own network. Remote access across the internet is not provided — use Tailscale or WireGuard if you need to reach your machine from outside.

Supported coding agents

The desktop app probes for CLI coding agents at runtime. On macOS the built-in catalog contains exactly these four entries, each detected by looking up the executable and running its version flag (8 second timeout, result cached for 60 seconds).

IDDisplay nameExecutableVersion probe
opencodeOpenCodeopencodeopencode --version
claude-codeClaude Codeclaudeclaude --version
codexCodex CLIcodexcodex --version
pipipipi --version

Known limitation

On the macOS agent runtime, the opencode entry is a stub: it is registered and displayed, but it never actually spawns a process. As a result, setting a working directory has no effect for it. Working directories take effect for claude-code, codex and pi.
